Round 1/Scott 1-Studying Through Sadness

Introduction: Frank and Lily Scott were a sweet young couple starting a family together.  They rented an apartment in Semyr City while they saved up to buy a home.  The birth of their son Daniel was a great joy for them.

With Daniel heading quickly toward childhood, Lily had decided to start looking for a job again.  It was as she was driving home from an interview that the unthinkable happened--she was hit by another car while driving through an intersection.  Frank rushed to the hospital as soon as he got the call, but in the end there was nothing the doctors could do.  Though he couldn't imagine life without his Lily, Frank knew that he had to continue on for the sake of their son.  He packed as fast as he could and moved them to the newly opened Ollendale to try to get a fresh start.

Frank: It has been so hard to go on, ever since I lost my sweet Lily.  I did not even have the heart to finish our new house, so the walls are bare.  All that matters to me right now are my books--I am not even interested in getting to know my new neighbors.

The only thing other thing that captures my attention is Daniel.  He is still so young, too young to understand what happened, so I try to give him enough love for two parents.

It is hard for me to always be with him, though.  Especially when he is up at night when I only wish to sleep.  I am grateful that he is a pleasant child, happy to play quietly while his father sleeps.  I do not wish for him to be exactly like I, of course, but I do hope that his appreciation for learning follows him throughout his life.

At last the time came for Daniel to Grow Up into a little boy.

He is a happy child who makes friends easily.  Here you see him playing with Jacob and Kathleen Avery, twins of our neighbor Julia Avery.  Their mother is a playful woman, and her and I have become friends.  It is nice to have another single parent with whom to talk.

I make sure that Daniel completes his homework every single night.  It is important that he understand the value of learning, and of getting good grades.  I know that he is still young, but I am already thinking ahead to when the time for college comes.  I did not attend myself, but I believe that times have changed, and it is a must for today's young people.

When I am not with my young son I am either at work, or preparing for work.  It may seem strange to others, but it was the tragedy in my life that caused me to seek out a career in medicine.  Seeing the devotion and care the doctors put into their work made me greatly respect them.

With me working frequently and Daniel still young, I hired a Nanny to care for him when I could not.  She seems a responsible and competent woman, though Daniel's snowman was mysteriously destroyed the day she came...  It is of no matter, though.  I need someone to care for him, and she fulfills that need.
